High in the mountains of Ocotepeque, Honduras, nestled between the borders of El Salvador and Guatemala, lies a lush coffee-growing region where our program is based. Since 2009, we have partnered with local community leaders to distribute essential goods and offer free English classes. Honduras remains one of the world’s poorest countries, with extreme poverty affecting 50% of the rural population. Limited employment opportunities drive high levels of emigration, and New Orleans now hosts the largest Honduran community in the United States.
Do you have any extra clothes or baby items you’d like to donate to someone in need? We’re preparing a shipment for Casa Materna in San Marcos de Ocotepeque, Honduras. San Marcos has the only hospital in the region, and many mothers travel long distances for medical care or to give birth. Casa Materna provides shelter, food, and essential items for these mothers, supporting them when they need it most.
Our next shipment to Casa Materna in San Marcos Ocotopeque Honduras will be January 2025
Items most needed:

I can pickup the items anywhere in metro New Orleans or you can contact me at info@harmonyanddesire.org for more information.
If you'd like to help off set some of the shipping costs you could buy a super cool "Chula" direct from the coffee highlands of Honduras! Chulas are colorful hand woven nylon bags made in mountains of Honduras. Made in the same way as hammocks, these bags are very strong and durable. They are used for everything from bringing lunches out to the coffee fields to carrying babies.
The items arrive in Santa Marta Ocotopeque to Doña Ana Silvia, a native of the community, who allocates the goods personally to the people who need them most.
It costs 89 cents per pound to ship from New Orleans to Honduras through DIP shipping in Kenner. Last shipment was more than 400 pounds.
We have no religious affiliations or operational expenditures. We provide a simple and effective means to share what you have with someone less fortunate and make a difference.
